Terms of Service

1. Service Description

Underline Books is a personal reading quote library. It lets you connect your Goodreads account or import a Goodreads / StoryGraph export, browse and search quotes from your books, and discover memorable passages. By using this service, you agree to these terms.

2. Free Trial, Subscription & Billing

• New accounts start with a free 14-day trial with full access, including AI search and automatic shelf syncing. No payment details are collected and nothing is charged during the trial.
• When the trial ends your account is not charged and does not convert automatically. It becomes read-only: you keep browsing and searching everything already imported, but importing new books, shelf syncing, and AI search pause until you subscribe.
• Subscribing is a separate, explicit step. Your card is entered only at that point, via Stripe, and billing begins immediately at the plan price you choose — Basic at $2.99/month or Premium at $4.99/month — renewing monthly until cancelled.
• Switching from Basic to Premium is prorated for the remainder of the current billing period.
• Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.
• We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to your registered email address.

3. Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Plan → Manage billing. Upon cancellation, you retain paid features until the end of your current billing period, after which your account returns to read-only access. No partial refunds are issued for unused time.

4. Acceptable Use

Underline Books is a personal-use tool. You agree not to:

• Share your account with others or resell access
• Automate requests in ways that place excessive load on our servers
• Attempt to scrape, copy, or extract data from the service at scale
• Use the service for any unlawful purpose

5. Your Content

Your reading library data (imported books, saved quotes, and collections) remains yours. We do not claim ownership over it. You grant us a limited license to store and display it to you as part of providing the service.

6. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee uptime, data integrity, or uninterrupted access. Quote data is sourced from Goodreads and may be incomplete or inaccurate.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from your use of Underline Books is limited to the amount you paid in subscription fees in the 3 months preceding the claim.

8. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the service operator resides. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation before any formal proceedings.
